Accident Benefits

Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefit: Help for life's daily details.

3 minute read

Daily routines don’t stop when you’re recovering from a motor vehicle accident. Tasks like vacuuming, shovelling snow, or mowing the lawn can quickly pile up if a serious injury prevents you from keeping up. That’s where the Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefit comes in. This benefit helps cover the cost of hiring someone to assist with essential household chores while you focus on getting better.

Coverage At a Glance

  • Who is eligible: If you are injured in a motor vehicle accident and unable to maintain your home.

  • Benefit: Covers reasonable expenses for cleaning or home maintenance services.

  • Coverage Limits Available: Up to $100 per week for housekeeping and home maintenance services.

How Coverage Works

Ontario auto insurance classifies injuries into three categories: minor, non-catastrophic, and catastrophic. Here’s how the Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefit applies in each case.

Minor Injuries

For short-term injuries, such as mild sprains or bruises, this benefit does not apply. Most people with minor injuries can manage their regular household routines without outside help as they recover.

Non-catastrophic Injuries

More serious injuries, such as a broken leg or moderate back injury, can make it difficult to keep up with cleaning, yard work, or snow removal. If you’ve chosen to add this optional benefit to your policy, it may provide up to $100 per week to help cover the cost of those household services while you recover.

Catastrophic Injuries

For life-altering injuries — for example, multiple fractures that prevent you from performing household tasks for several months — the Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefit can provide up to $100 per week to help keep your household running during a longer recovery period.

Helping You Focus on Recovery

The Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefit offers meaningful support when daily routines become a challenge. By taking care of the essentials at home, this coverage gives you one less thing to worry about as you recover from your injuries.
